📋 Project Description
The Bilcoguard Iran Conflict Tracker is a comprehensive, real-time web application that monitors and visualises the military, economic, and humanitarian dimensions of the 2026 Iran conflict (also known as Operation Epic Fury / True Promise IV).
The tracker aggregates data from multiple open-source intelligence (OSINT) feeds, satellite imagery providers, flight tracking networks, maritime monitoring systems, financial market APIs, and international news agencies to provide a unified operational picture of the conflict.
The project was created to provide free, unbiased, publicly accessible conflict tracking to journalists, researchers, analysts, policymakers, and concerned citizens worldwide. It is not affiliated with any government, military, or intelligence agency.
🎯 Purpose & Mission
Transparency: Provide the public with access to the same type of situational awareness tools typically reserved for military command centres, using only publicly available data.
Education: Help people understand the scale, scope, and consequences of the conflict — including economic ripple effects reaching countries far from the theater of operations.
Documentation: Create a timestamped, verifiable record of conflict events as they unfold, contributing to the historical record and potential future accountability processes.
Impact Awareness: Highlight how the conflict affects countries not directly involved, including Zambia and other developing nations dependent on global energy and trade flows.
🔬 Methodology
Data Collection
Data is gathered from RSS feeds, public APIs, and structured web sources at regular intervals (60 seconds for live data, 5 minutes for analytical data, 10 minutes for news aggregation). All data passes through keyword relevance filtering before display.
Geolocation & Mapping
Strike locations, base positions, naval vessel tracks, and aircraft positions use coordinates from publicly available databases (ADS-B Exchange, MarineTraffic AIS, military base registries). The 2D map uses Leaflet.js with CartoDB tiles; the 3D God's Eye view uses CesiumJS with ESRI/ArcGIS imagery.
Economic Data
Oil prices, gold, S&P 500, EU gas TTF, and shipping rates are sourced from Yahoo Finance APIs and financial data aggregators. Data is cached locally and refreshed every 5 minutes during market hours.
Conflict Statistics
Missile counts, strike tallies, interception rates, and casualty figures are compiled from official government statements, verified journalist reports, satellite damage assessments, and cross-referenced against multiple independent sources. Figures marked with "+" indicate conservative estimates.
Verification Standard
Where possible, events are cross-referenced against at least two independent sources before inclusion. Single-source reports are tagged as "unconfirmed" or "reports indicate". The tracker distinguishes between confirmed events, assessed events, and unverified claims.
